Epidemiology and Biostatistics (2): This module builds on the knowledge and skills in the basic principles of collecting, analysing and interpreting epidemiological data acquired in Epidemiology and Biostatistics Module 1 which is normally a pre-requisite for this module. It is focused on the standard methodologies used for epidemiological investigations, their design and application, analysis and interpretation of data and the strengths and weakness of different epidemiological investigations. This module aims to provide the participants with the knowledge and skills they need to understand different epidemiological study designs. This knowledge will be invaluable in enabling you understand and critically appraise epidemiological research, to design your own epidemiological investigations, and interpret information from epidemiological studies to make informed decisions about health information and disease prevention strategies This module will use a “blended” method of delivery. Most of the module will be delivered face to face using a variety of learning activities but there will also be two on-line sessions. There are two associated assessments: the first requires you to develop a folder of evidence that demonstrates competence in using statistical software. For those of you who have undertaken Epidemiology and Biostatistics Module 1 this will follow on from, and complement, the folder of evidence developed during that module. In the second assignment you will be asked to design an epidemiological study related to a health protection issue of your choice. |
