The Prevention and Management of Healthcare associated infections continue to be a significant threat to peoples’ safety and wellbeing and are of key concern to the general public, health professionals and healthcare organisations. Health care is carried out and delivered within a variety of different settings and complex situations. Therefore the prevention and management of infection transmission is an integral component of modern day health care and is a challenge for all health professionals. This module will give the participants an opportunity to reflect upon the previous core modules undertaken and relate these to specific infection control situations. The use of the laboratory experiments will enable the participants to develop a deeper knowledge and understanding of the microbiology and science of infection transmission and provide a firm foundation and rationale for infection control practices. The module will provide the participants with an opportunity to explore a broad range of evidence-based, infection control principles and practices and encourage them to reflect upon how this impacts on their role, and that of others within the health care team. This module will use a “blended” method of delivery. Most of the module will be delivered on line using a variety of learning activities but there will also be two face to face laboratory sessions. The assessment for the module requires you to choose one of three practice scenarios which will be provided and you will be asked to critically reflect on the issues described. |
